B.Des Overview:

Design today is no longer confined to a single discipline. It shapes the way we live, work, communicate, interact and experience the world around us. The Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programme at DES Pune University is structured as a comprehensive and future-focused design education that prepares students to become thoughtful creators, problem solvers and innovators.
The programme builds a strong foundation in design thinking, creativity, user understanding, sustainability and emerging technologies before allowing students to specialise in their chosen domain. With a strong emphasis on industry integration, hands on learning, real world exposure and interdisciplinary collaboration, the B.Des programme ensures that students graduate not only with technical skills but with the mindset and adaptability required in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

Specialisations Overview:

B.Des Interior and Space Design:

Interior and Space Design focuses on creating functional, aesthetic and human centred environments that enhance wellbeing and productivity. The specialisation encourages students to understand spatial behaviour, materiality, lighting, sustainability and contextual design. From residential and commercial spaces to hospitality and institutional environments, students learn to craft purposeful experiences that respond to changing lifestyles and contemporary needs.

B.Des UX Design:

UX Design centres on understanding human behaviour in digital and physical systems to create intuitive, seamless and meaningful interactions. This specialisation blends research, interaction design, usability principles and emerging technologies to prepare students to design impactful digital products and services. Students develop the ability to translate user insights into strategic design solutions across apps, platforms and service ecosystems.

B.Des Product Design:

Product Design focuses on developing innovative and user centred products that enhance everyday life. Students explore ideation, material understanding, form development, prototyping and sustainability to transform concepts into functional solutions. The specialisation prepares designers to respond to real world challenges by balancing usability, aesthetics and market relevance.

B.Des Visual Communication Design:

Visual Communication Design nurtures visual storytellers who communicate ideas through compelling graphics, branding, typography and digital media. Students learn to craft cohesive visual identities and communication systems across print, digital and interactive platforms. The specialisation equips them to shape narratives that influence perception and create lasting impact.

B.Des Animation Design:

Animation Design combines storytelling, creativity and digital tools to bring characters and narratives to life. Students explore 2D and 3D animation, character design, storyboarding, motion graphics and visual effects. The specialisation prepares graduates for careers in entertainment, gaming, digital media and emerging immersive technologies.
